As a member of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) department of the Clinical Services Division, the VPD Nurse is accountable to Clinical Services Management for the implementation of the assigned Requirements of the Infectious and Communicable Diseases Prevention & Control Program Standard, Immunization Standard, and/or School Health Standard of the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS), and related protocols and guidelines.

The Public Health Nurse assigned to the Home Visiting department uses a comprehensive health promotion approach to reduce health inequities of families and children. By adopting the public health core competencies and using knowledge of the social determinants of health, population health, evidence-based practice, the Public Health Nurse works to achieve optimal preconception, pregnancy, newborn, child, youth, parental and family health.

The Public Health Inspector is responsible for monitoring, promoting, and ensuring compliance with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Ontario Public Health Standards (2018), under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, related to Foundational Standards, Food Safety, Safe Water, Rabies Prevention and Control, Healthy Environments and Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control and any other programs administered by the Board of Health.
The Administrative Assistant will be an integral member of program team as assigned. Will assist program staff with the organization and administration of program activities and provide administrative support in an efficient and courteous manner, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Lakelands Public Health will employ four (4) post-secondary school students for the Safe Water and Vector-Borne Disease Prevention Programs. To be clear, these positions will involve working in both the Safe Water and Vector-Borne Disease Prevention Program areas, not one or the other.
The Practicum Student will work under the guidance of Certified Public Health Inspectors to carry out activities required by the Ontario Public Health Standards related to Food Safety, Safe Water, Rabies Prevention and Control, Health Hazard Prevention and Management and Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control.
