(July 15, 2026) –Lakelands Public Health is urging residents of Haliburton, Kawartha, Peterborough and Northumberland to take precautions to protect against heat- and air quality-related illnesses. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued Heat and Air Quality Warnings for the region. When both heat and air quality warnings are in place, most people should prioritize keeping cool.

(July 13, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is urging residents of the region to take precautions to protect against heat-related illnesses. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Yellow Heat Warning for the entire region of Haliburton, Kawartha, Northumberland and Peterborough counties, beginning on Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16.

June 30, 2026 – On January 29, 2026, Lakelands Public Health (formed through the merger of the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health) discovered a cybersecurity incident affecting the Peterborough Office location IT server only.

(June 29, 2026) –Lakelands Public Health is urging residents to take precautions to protect against heat-related illnesses as the first heat event arrives coinciding with Canada Day festivities. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an “Orange Heat Warning” for most of the region for Tuesday, June 30 through Friday, July 3. Currently, daytime highs are expected to reach up to 36° C, with a humidex possibly into the mid-40s.

(June 29, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health has been advised of a current outbreak of raccoon-variant rabies strain in New York State and Quebec regions, close the Ontario borders.

(June 1, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is pleased to invite health care professionals to participate in its upcoming Public Health Grand Rounds on June 15, 2026, a virtual educational session designed to support knowledge sharing and collaboration between public health and clinical care providers in the Lakelands Public Health region.

Lakelands Public Health is partnering with local animal welfare organizations and veterinary clinics across the regions to provide reduced-cost rabies vaccination clinics this spring, helping ensure more pets are protected while reducing financial barriers for pet owners.  

May 25, 2026 – Lakelands Public Health is launching its annual Beach Water Monitoring Program starting June 15, 2026, helping residents and visitors stay safe while enjoying local beaches across the region.
