Food Training and Nutrition
The HKPR District Health Unit promotes and educates the community on the impacts of food and nutrition. From fundamental nutritional principles to training, we empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Dietitian Support
Lakelands Public Health can help connect you to a Registered Dietitian. With so much information out there about food and nutrition, it can be confusing. Dietitians use the most up-to-date science and translate it to guide and support you with your food and nutrition goals.
Food Handler Training
Lakelands Public Health offers food handler training courses, including a self-study and exam challenge option. Food handler courses provide education on how to safely handle and prepare food, which is a regulatory requirement under the Food Premises Regulation.
Food Premise Opening
All food premises are subject to the requirements of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and Ontario Food Premises Regulation including allowing entry to Public Health Inspectors to conduct inspections.
Special Events Permit
The Health Unit's role is to make sure that the public is protected from food-borne illnesses by ensuring that food is prepared safely. Organizers and food venders of events that serve food to the public, must fill out an application at least 14 days prior to the event.
