As a restaurant and food premises owner, you are responsible for ensuring the safety of your customers and employees. You must ensure that the premises is kept in a clean and hygienic state, in accordance with food safety regulations.

Food Premise Opening

Every person who intends to operate a food premises within the Lakelands Public Health region must notify the Medical Officer of Health before starting. This requirement also applies to operators purchasing an existing food premise.

Special Events Permit

There are many special or community events that involve serving food to the public. In some cases, these special events serve food to thousands of people. Food that is improperly prepared can cause illness, and in some cases, serious complications or even death.

Food Handler Training

All food premises, including special event vendors, are required to have at least one food handler onsite during every hour of operation. It is recommended that anyone working in the food industry obtain Food Handler Certification.
