Your smile is our priority! Lakelands Public Health's dedicated team of experienced dental health professionals is committed to providing dental care to individuals and families throughout the district area.

Dental Health Clinics

Our Dental Health team believes that a healthy smile contributes to overall well-being. We understand that visiting the dentist can sometimes be a daunting experience, especially for young patients. Our friendly and compassionate team is dedicated to creating a positive experience for all.

A Registered Dental Hygienist will perform an assessment by using a sterilized mirror to inspect your child’s mouth. Screenings are performed at our Peterborough, Port Hope and Lindsay offices, and in elementary schools.

Why are Screening Clinics important?

    • Dental screenings in our clinics and elementary schools provide an opportunity for children to be seen by a regulated health professional at no cost.
    • Lakelands Public Health staff can provide guidance on navigating financial supports such as Healthy Smiles Ontario.
    • Dental screening results provide information to determine local programming.

Fluoride Varnish

Our dental professionals may apply topical fluoride (fluoride varnish) to individuals at risk of tooth decay. Children 17 & under living in Haliburton, Kawartha Lakes, and Northumberland regions are automatically eligible for Fluoride Varnish due to the lack of fluoride in the water. The City of Peterborough has a by-law mandating that the City drinking water is fluoridated, so residents have to be screened by a public health hygienist to be deemed clinically eligible to receive fluoride varnish.
