December 18, 2025 – As colder temperatures arrive across the region, Lakelands Public Health is reminding residents that very cold temperatures or wind chill can be dangerous and that taking precautions can help prevent serious health problems. Cold-related illnesses can happen quickly, especially for people who are more vulnerable to the cold.
December 15, 2025 – Lakelands Public Health is pleased to be offering 750 free radon test kits to community members this year, as part of the Evict Radon National Study. Community members who receive a kit must agree to be a part of the study, set up the device for at least 91 days, and then send the kit (pre-paid envelope included) to be analyzed. Locations to pick up kits can be found at LakelandsPH.ca/radon.
November 26th, 2025– As winter approaches and local arenas are once again full of athletes, parents and fans alike, Lakelands Public Health is reminding residents and visitors that the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017 (SFOA) prohibits smoking or vaping on or within 20 metres of all arena property, not just doors.
November 17, 2025 – The Township of North Kawartha and the Municipality of Trent Lakes will pause their seasonal well water test sample drop-off program locations for the winter. The last day to drop off test samples at these municipal offices is Thursday, November 27, 2025. Seasonal service at both locations will resume in early April 2026.
November 12, 2025 - For Health Care Providers, Hospitals, Agencies etc. Lakelands Public Health is coordinating the 2025–2026 seasonal vaccine, including Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV (Older Adult & Infant) vaccines.
October 29, 2025 – As the respiratory season arrives, which includes the flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Lakelands Public Health is thrilled to unveil a newly updated Respiratory Diseases Dashboard containing localized infection data for the Lakelands Public Health area.
