Position Summary:

The Learning & Development Advisor (L&D Advisor) reports to the Manager, Indigenous Health with a dotted line to the Manager, Human Resources. They will lead the design and development of learning and development activities related to the Indigenous Health program and specifically in Indigenous Cultural Competency. 

The L&D Advisor collaborates and works across the organization and with external stakeholders to build and deliver learning and development activities and capacity building including with Lakelands Public Health. They will work on a range of topic areas and use several learning modalities to support competency related to Indigenous Health and Indigenous cultural competency across the organization, to provide and embed relevant, meaningful and sustainable knowledge and skills. These activities will improve overall organization and staff awareness and orientation to barriers and biases

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete current state assessment related to learning and development activities to support Indigenous Health including current knowledge and readiness.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive learning strategy to support learnings and activities related to Indigenous Health and related topic areas (ie. unconscious bias, systemic racism etc).
  • Design and develop a range of learning activities to support Indigenous Cultural Competency.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders internally and externally to develop strategies and training including first nations and community partners.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to support learning and embed knowledge in Lakelands PH practices and ways of working.
  • Inspire curiosity, engagement and interest in learning and adapting knowledge in creative and specific ways within Lakelands PH.
  • Develop an annual learning plan/calendar with activities to support recognition of specific days and themes (TRC day, National day for MMIWG, etc).
  • Develop resources for Recognizing National Indigenous History Month collaborating with the Communications team to spread awareness of activities, resources, etc throughout the health unit.
  • Collaborates across the Indigenous Health team along with Human Resources, Communications and other stakeholders to ensure effective and coordinated program delivery.
  • Ensures learning and development initiatives and activities are aligned with organizational and HR policies, employment legislation, and collective agreements, as applicable.
  • Works closely with all levels of the organization to ensure that tools and policies are aligned with the organizational strategic plan, enhance employee engagement, and improve workplace culture.
  • Supports initiatives to advance service delivery using technology to automate processes.
  • Undertake special projects, tasks or other related duties as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Indigenous Applicants preferred and will be assessed for a combination of lived experience and education.
  • Relevant post-secondary education with a focus on learning and development.
  • A related learning and development designation or certification is an asset.
  • Professional learning and development experience, ideally in supporting learning related to topics such as Indigenous Cultural safety and health equity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and quick adaptation to new software is an asset.
  • Highly organized with a strong ability to handle, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates professional and effective communication, and strong attention to detail.
  • Works effectively in a team environment, liaising with multiple stakeholders while maintaining tact and integrity in communicating sensitive topics.
  • Experience in a unionized and public sector setting is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
