Position Summary

The Human Resources Advisor reports to the Manager Human Resources and provides expertise, advice, and consultation in all areas of human resources management to support a recently merged organization  in the alignment of policies, practices, and workplace culture.

The Human Resources Advisor works across the organization in the delivery of HR services including but not limited to: Recruitment, Orientation and On-boarding, Payroll, Compensation and Benefits  Administration, Human Resources policy harmonization, Support for Employee and Labour Relations and Collective Bargaining, HR Strategy initiatives, and Employee Wellness.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts full-cycle recruitment including but not limited to preparing job postings, screening applications, scheduling interviews, checking references, and preparing offers of employment on behalf of the hiring Manager.
  • Responsible for employee onboarding and offboarding; providing communication that involves explanation, exchange and clarification of information, requiring tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Performs new hire orientations and works alongside managers to ensure employees are effectively integrated into the work environment and provided with clear information regarding pay, benefits and entitlements.
  • Routinely provides confidential human resources support to labour relations including collective bargaining, grievances, labour and employment matters, workplace investigations, recruitment and selection, onboarding, benefits and pension administration, and attendance management.
  • Consults, interprets, advises and ensures consistent application of organizational and HR policies, employment legislation, and collective agreements.
  • Works closely with all levels of the organization to ensure that tools and policies are aligned with the organizational strategic plan, enhance employee engagement, and improve workplace culture.
  • Collaborates and works across the HR team to assist with projects and help advance priorities; provides back up to other HR Advisors and Payroll.
  • Supports initiatives to advance HR service delivery using technology to automate processes.
  • Undertake special projects, tasks or other related duties as requested by the Human Resources Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Relevant post-secondary education in Human Resources.
  • Must have or be working towards the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.
  • Minimum 2 - 3 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of multiple human resource areas and applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS and Payroll systems (ADP) and quick adaptation to new software.
  • Highly organized with strong ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates professional customer service skills, effective communication, and strong attention to detail.
  • Works effectively in a team environment, liaising with multiple stakeholders while maintaining strict confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
  • Experience in a unionized and public sector setting is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
