(May 15, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health would like to advise media, and the community of an upcoming Board of Health meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, at 4 p.m.

PETERBOROUGH, ON (May 14, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is notifying the public of a potential exposure to chickenpox (varicella) at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) on May 11-12, 2026. Individuals who visited the emergency department at PRHC between 1738 hrs (5:38pm) on May 11th to 0756 hrs (7:56am) on May 12th may have been exposed to chickenpox.

(May 13, 2026) – Tomorrow, May 14^th, is recognized annually as Moose Hide Campaign Day. The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led grassroots movement of men and boys standing against violence towards women, children, and those on the gender continuum. People of all ages, genders, and backgrounds are invited to participate in this campaign and activities raising awareness.

Lakelands Public Health shares an update on the drinking water advisory sent on April 21 for the residents and cottage owners on South Lake. Shoreline assessment and aerial survey has shown no visible fuel product beyond the contained area.

Lakelands Public Health is seeking a positive, engaging, and forward-thinking Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH) to join its senior leadership team, providing both medical and organizational leadership. Reporting to the Medical Officer of Health & CEO (MOH/CEO), the AMOH will offer leadership and direction to a multidisciplinary public health team for assigned programs  and strategic projects, that protect and promote the health and well-being of residents in the Cities of Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Northumberland, and Peterborough Counties, and Alderville, Curve Lake, and Hiawatha First Nations.

November 12, 2025 - For Health Care Providers, Hospitals, Agencies etc. Lakelands Public Health is coordinating the 2025–2026 seasonal vaccine, including Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV (Older Adult & Infant) vaccines.

(May 5, 2026) – Each year, May 5^th marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Peoples (MMIWG), which is also known as Red Dress Day. According to the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be murdered or go missing than non-Indigenous women in Canada.

(April 30, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is issuing an alert due to a high number of suspected drug poisonings related Paramedic Service calls reported in Haliburton County. The substance of concern is suspected to be opioids. Multiple doses of naloxone may be required.

April 28, 2026 – Lakelands Public Health is encouraging residents to focus on social connection during Mental Health Week, May 4th to 10th, 2026. This year’s theme highlights the important role social connection plays in supporting mental health and overall well-being, helping to reduce stress, improve mood, and foster a sense of belonging.
