Lakelands Public Health Welcomes New Associate Medical Officer of Health
Dr. Maxwell Tran Brings Diverse Clinical Experience and Public Health Expertise to the Region
(September 17, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Maxwell Tran as the health unit's new Associate Medical Officer of Health (AMOH). Dr. Tran brings a wealth of academic excellence, comprehensive public health training, and diverse clinical experience to the region.
Dr. Tran joins Lakelands following a distinguished academic and professional journey. He completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a combined Family Medicine and Public Health & Preventive Medicine (PHPM) residency at the University of Toronto, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership by serving as Chief Resident for both programs. During his residency, he also earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was recognized as a prestigious Sommer Scholar.
His foundational public health experience includes extensive hands-on training across Ontario’s public health landscape. As a senior PHPM resident, Dr. Tran completed rotations at multiple local public health units—including Halton Region, Peel Public Health, Toronto Public Health, and York Region Public Health—as well as provincially with Public Health Ontario and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

In addition to his public health specialization, Dr. Tran maintains an active clinical practice in family medicine and hospitalist medicine. This clinical work has taken him across the province, serving diverse patient populations in North York, Parry Sound, Sioux Lookout, and Sandy Lake First Nation. This dual lens of frontline clinical care and population-level health strategy will heavily inform his work protecting and promoting health within the Lakelands communities.
