September 10, 2026 - Lakelands Public Health is confirming the first laboratory-confirmed case of Influenza A, commonly known as the flu, in the City of Peterborough. This is one month earlier than last year’s first case, which was confirmed in October.
September 8, 2026 – Lakelands Public Health is partnering with local animal welfare organizations and veterinary clinics across the regions, for its fall campaign of reduced-cost rabies vaccination clinics.
August 24, 2026 – Lakelands Public Health is advising residents that ongoing mosquito surveillance across the region has identified evidence of West Nile virus (WNV) activity, including mosquitoes testing positive for WNV in the Lindsay area.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued Heat and Air Quality Warnings for the region. When both heat and air quality warnings are in place, most people should prioritize keeping cool.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Yellow Heat Warning for the entire region of Haliburton, Kawartha, Northumberland and Peterborough counties, beginning on Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 16.
June 30, 2026 – On January 29, 2026, Lakelands Public Health (formed through the merger of the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health) discovered a cybersecurity incident affecting the Peterborough Office location IT server only.
(June 29, 2026) –Lakelands Public Health is urging residents to take precautions to protect against heat-related illnesses as the first heat event arrives coinciding with Canada Day festivities. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an “Orange Heat Warning” for most of the region for Tuesday, June 30 through Friday, July 3. Currently, daytime highs are expected to reach up to 36° C, with a humidex possibly into the mid-40s.
