Lakelands Public Health Honours Moose Hide Campaign Day
Indigenous-Led Movement of Standing Up Against Violence Towards Women and Children
(May 13, 2026) – Tomorrow, May 14th, is recognized annually as Moose Hide Campaign Day. The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led grassroots movement of men and boys standing against violence towards women, children, and those on the gender continuum. People of all ages, genders, and backgrounds are invited to participate in this campaign and activities raising awareness.
Lakelands Public Health staff are showing support for the campaign through wearing the moose hide pin – a small square of moose hide pinned to clothing. Each of the corners represents a way that people are medicine to end violence: through interrupting; responding to; healing from; and preventing violence. The pin invites conversations surrounding the issue and signifies a commitment to honour, respect, and protect women and children.
“Moose Hide Campaign Day is an important opportunity to stand together in support of ending violence against women, children, and all people,” said Dr. Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health and CEO. “We recognize that building safer, healthier communities requires ongoing commitment, meaningful dialogue, and collective action rooted in respect, healing, and reconciliation. We encourage everyone across our region to learn more about the Moose Hide Campaign, wear the moose hide pin, and take part in creating communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported.”
Numerous ceremonies are taking place across the country throughout the day and will be livestreamed via YouTube. To learn more or find a link to streams, visit MooseHideCampaign.ca.
