Lakelands Public Health understands that every child has the opportunity to experience the world to the fullest through optimal hearing and vision health. Early intervention is key to a child's success.

By the time most children are four years old, they can communicate well with others. Helping your child develop speech and language skills is important. It can help them to make friends, learn to read, and succeed in school and life. 

Lakelands Public Health's Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants visit elementary schools every year to provide free oral health screenings to students in kindergarten and grade two. At some schools, we may also screen students in other grades.

Ensure your child has all the required vaccines needed to attend school. Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), all Ontario students attending school must be fully vaccinated. Parents are also responsible for ensuring their child’s immunization record is up-to-date with Lakelands Public Health.

Starting Kindergarten is an exciting time in your child’s life.
School is a place where children play, learn and grow in social,
emotional and academic ways. It is normal for children and
parents to have a mix of emotions about starting school.
