Sexual health is an important part of overall health. Lakelands Public Health provides free and confidential sexual health services for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. 

Whether you are sexually active now or thinking about having sex, our Sexual Health Nurses can help you make informed decisions that are right for you.

Lakelands Public Health provides free Sexual Health Services in the City of Kawartha Lakes, County of Haliburton, Northumberland County and Peterborough.

At a Sexual Health Clinic, you can receive the following services:

  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI)/Blood-borne infection (BBI) testing
  • Free STI treatment for individuals diagnosed with a STI
  • Free STI treatment for sexual partners of persons diagnosed with a STI
  • HPV genital wart/molluscum treatment
  • Free condoms and low-cost birth control
  • Pregnancy testing, options counselling, and referrals
  • Emergency contraception
  • Birth control prescriptions (25 years and under only) - including oral contraceptive, Evra patch, Nuvaring, Depo Provera, IUS/IUD
  • Cervical Screening (formerly PAP test) - excluding Peterborough location

Cervical Screening Replaces PAP Testing

Effective March 3, 2025, The Ontario Cervical Screening Program (OCSP) is implementing human papillomavirus (HPV) testing that will replace PAP testing. The new cervical screening program is an excellent way to find out if you are at risk for developing abnormal cells which can lead to cancer.
