At Lakelands Public Health, we do not provide treatment or counselling for mental health concerns or diagnosed mental illnesses. We will listen and work with you to best meet your needs. We will help to find and connect you with community resources based on what you identify as a priority.
Mental health support encompasses a wide range of services, resources, and interventions designed to help individuals maintain and improve their mental and emotional well-being. It includes various forms of assistance and guidance provided to individuals who may be experiencing mental health challenges or seeking to maintain good mental health.

Support is a Call or Click Away
Finding the right service to fit your needs can sometimes take time. There are telephone crisis and support lines, options for meeting a counsellor face-to-face, virtually, or in a group setting. There are online supports and there are programs where you work on materials at your own pace with support from a mental health professional.

- The Be There Certificate is a free, self-paced course to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely support anyone who may be struggling with their mental health. There are 6 interactive lessons and takes less than 2 hours to complete.
- The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health offers:
- A Fundamentals of Mental Health Online Course
- A Mental Health 101 series of tutorials.
- A Mental Illness and Addiction index to find clear and reliable information about disorders and addiction
- The Centre for Suicide Prevention offers access to an online, skills-based suicide prevention training program called LivingWorks Start.
- DepressionHurts.ca is a site that features discussion forums, activities and resources to learn about mood disorders.
- Learn more about mental health and well-being in later life with resources from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
- The Mental Health Commission of Canada offers several mental health training programs including programs related to stigma, programs for youth and training on psychological health and safety for employees.
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training helps us to recognize and support someone who is experiencing mental health distress or crisis. Just like physical first aid when help is provided until medical treatment can be given, MHFA is given until appropriate support or treatment is found or until the crisis is resolved. Consider taking a MHFA course.
